DUMPSTER CATS RESCUE LEAGUE
In dumpsters, junkyards, gardens and woods, homeless cats are everywhere trying to survive.
We are an all volunteer group working to help homeless cats and kittens by providing spay and neuter aid and assistance.
Many are discarded pets, some are born outdoors, none of them want to be there, each of them could be a loving companion.

PLEASE HELP

Hello, My name is Mittens, but I answered to many names.  I once lived in an apartment at Cedar Hill, but then I was put outside.  Many of the residents petted or fed me.  You haven’t seen me around lately, and you may ask: Why?   Several children beat me with a stick on May 30, 2006.  They broke my pelvis, back and right hip.  They also broke my neck, and caused severe nerve damage to my left front paw and broke my shoulder.   I may have made it, although I would have been forever crippled, except for the fact that they ruptured my bladder with the blows.

They continued to beat me until I could no longer stand or walk.  After poking me with sticks for a bit they finally tired of the game.

The pain was overwhelming but I had to get back to my babies.  I began to drag myself to them, crawling military style.  Fortunately some of my friends saw me crawling and called for help.  The lady from Dumpster Cats came and got me.  She took me away and promised me that my babies would be okay.

Mittens struggled through the night but on Wednesday morning she was not the same cat that had been retrieved Tuesday night.  It was obvious that she was terribly worried about her kittens despite the pain and broken bones. It was also apparent that she had internal damage.   Several calls were made to area vets (the SPCA was one.)  Most just said put her down.  If Mittens had a chance to live—she was going to get it.  Dr. Carletti, a vet that makes house calls came to see her.

After an extensive examination, it was determined that this dear, one year old kittie, a baby herself, had multiple broken bones and nerve damage, and was bleeding internally, and, the worst problem, was no bladder function.  She was slowly being poisoned by her own body.  A heart breaking decision had to be made.  Mittens was in severe pain and deserved not to suffer any more than she had already.  She did not deserve a slow death due to internal bleeding and septic shock.  We decided to euthanize her.  This was not an easy decision—I knew her only 24 hours and I fell in love with her, such a sweet cat and the mother of five.  Four of them obviously her own, and a calico that we assume was adopted.

There are now four tiny kittens (four weeks old) and an older kitten (about 5 months old) left behind with no Mother because of senseless abuse.  The babies are terrified because their Mommy is gone and people have pounded on the shed that Mittens hid them under, and they have reached under and poked at them with sticks.

PLEASE DO NOT LET MITTENS HAVE DIED IN VAIN!

If You have any information at all about the abuse of Mittens or her kittens, Or ANY animal, Please call the SPCA at 410-398-9555 and tell them what you saw—you can do it anonymously.

To those kind people who fed or sheltered me, I thank you.  Because of your kindness, I was able to have four healthy babies in early May and able to adopt another older kitten who was frightened and abused.  Because of you, I was able to care for them, and because of you, I was able to live my final moments with some dignity knowing that my little ones would be cared for. Thank You!

Mittens will be cremated, her ashes scattered in a park where she will be forever free.

Her kittens will be neutered or spayed and placed in loving forever homes, and won’t have to ever worry about abuse or suffering.

Please be part of the solution - Please Spay or Neuter your pet!
